Cashflow 101 E-game is the pc game version of the popular financial education board game, Cashflow 101. To those of you who are unfamiliar with who Robert Kiyosaki is, he is the author of the best-selling book: Rich Dad, Poor Dad.

The objective of Cashflow 101 E-game is to get out of the rat race and into the fast track to achieve your dream, that is, to achieve financial freedom. As a person who has never played the real Cashflow board game before, I find the digital/software version pretty interesting and quite addictive.

At first impression, the e-game was amazing in graphics but needs more improvements in the background music and game options.

202 is a little better …. but good all round learning tool!

Earlier this past week I was asked to evaluate the Electronic version of Rich Dad’s Cashflow 101 game. So, what I decided to do was play it a few dozen times, take some screen captures and post them here in this blog to get some other opinions on this terrific game.

For those of you who are not familiar with Robert Kiyosaki and his famous book “Rich Dad Poor Dad”, “Cashlow Quadrant” and a handful of others…he has developed a board game called CASHFLOW. There is a Kids version of this game, as well as a pc version called Cashflow 101, and the more advanced pc version called Cashflow 202.

Today I thought I would tell you a little bit about the game in general and then show you some screenshots. Essentially, the object of this game is to collect more passive income than you have as expenses. Those who achieve this are raised to a state known as the “fast track”.

So what is this game all about and how can it help me? The game starts off by assigning you a character and corresponding profession. You get to pick which Dream you would like to shoot for. Dreams can be something like being able to heli ski the swiss alps, have dinner with the President, join the peace corps and conduct humanitarian missions, etc. But you need to earn enough to buy those dreams.

Now, the fundamentals of the game are limited at best however they do do a good job in helping you decide what impact your cashflow will be if you buy a small deal or a big deal. Small deals are generally small homes, condos, stock market deals, etc. while big deals could be large 24 unit apartment complexes, 8 plex, 4 plex, duplex, car wash, beauty salon, trucking business, etc.

The fun part about playing this game especially the electronic version, is that you can have the computer generate 4 pc characters you can play against. Each character may be a firefighter, policeman, lawyer, web designer, doctor, etc. When the game begins it assigns a character to you and if they make you a lawyer…you will have to pay back school loans, credit card debt, retail debt, car loans, mortgages, etc.

Again the whole idea is to get you out of the rat race and into living a comfortable life existing on enough passive income to do all of those things you have always wanted to do.

This game does have it’s limitations, which I won’t bother addressing here however, it is truly a delight to play. I have only reviewed CASHFLOW 101 at this time but do expect to evaluate CASHFLOW 202 as well as the Kids version of the game.

In closing, if you are interested in increasing your financial understanding…this may very well be a fun and exciting way to learn.

Cashflow 101 is a boardgame by best selling author Robert Kiyosaki. Objective of the Game

1. Getting out of the rat race

Cashflow 101’s main objective is to help you get out of the common cycle of financial problems faced by most people. Robert Kiyosaki calls this cycle the rat race. Most people have a hard time succeeding financially even after going to school because schools don’t teach financial literacy.

The game starts out with all the players in the rat race which is a small wheel. Players remain on this wheel until they have a passive income which exceeds their expenditure. Passive income refers to money which is gained indirectly i.e. from investment returns. Expenditure stands for the cost of living.

Players randomly draw profession cards. The professions included are; engineer, teacher, business manager, mechanic, lawyer, secretary, janitor, nurse, airline pilot, police officer, doctor and truck driver.

After each player has chosen their preferred profession, they transfer their information i.e., assets, liabilities, income and expenses to their income statements. Each player will then take turns playing landing on any of the following tiles; doodads, opportunity pay check, charity, baby, downsized or the market.

With each turn, players have a chance to make crucial decisions which impact on their income statement. Each decision triggers an update in every player’s financial statement. Audits are conducted by other players to ensure everything is updated correctly.

2. Achieving your dream

Cashflow 101’s other objective is achieving your dream. After a player manages to build up passive income that exceeds expenses, that player automatically exits the rat race and enters the fast track. With every turn, players have the opportunity to increase their passive income and eventually achieving their dream. The 1st player to attain a passive income of $50,000 or achieve their dream is declared the winner.

What Cashflow 101 Will Help You Understand

1. The game introduces people to personal finance: Let’s face it. Most people struggle all their lives because of lack of basic financial knowledge. Kiyosaki’s Cashflow 101 board game teaches some of the most important personal finance basics i.e. filling out a personal financial statement. Such knowledge goes a long way in helping you manage your money.

2. The game teaches the real difference between assets and liabilities: It’s also important to note that many people go through life with a vague understanding of the difference between an asset and a liability. 4. The game teaches you the power of wise decision making: Progress in the cashflow 101 game is dictated by the kind of decisions you make as a player. The game shows how costly bad mistakes can be in the future. The game also gives players an opportunity to try out different strategies. In the end, you learn how to make the best financial decisions which is a very important lesson.
